M-P thrashes Arlington on to Oak Harbor

MARYSVILLE A winless Arlington team vainly struggled to win a game in their 3-0 loss to Marysville-Pilchuck on the home teams senior night.
The Tomahawks won 25-12, 25-9, 25-10 on Oct. 23, the night the team recognized the seniors and their last regular-season game on the home court.
Despite Arlingtons woes, M-P coach Shelly Johnson said she wanted the girls to work on playing their best, especially after losing a match in five games to Shorewood a week earlier.
I think we really talked about staying on top and not playing to the level of your opponent, Johnson said after the game. She added that she was happy with the girls performance, especially with a showdown looming two nights later with conference rival Oak Harbor for second place.
Arlingtons closest score came in the opening of game one. The teams played to a 4-3 score before M-P went on a 12-point tear, putting the game out of the Eagles reach. Games two and three proved equally insurmountable. M-P errors contributed considerably to Arlingtons 31 match points.
Johnson added that shed like to see the team continue working to reduce errors.
I think the only thing we need to improve on are serving errors, she said, adding that the Oak Harbor match would prove a test of the teams progress.
Senior Jessica Masters led the offense with 10 kills and three aces, followed by junior Emily Boerger with eight and senior Jade Hanson with five. Junior libero Jadelyn Thompson had 26 digs with no digging errors.
