MARYSVILLE — The crowd at Quil Ceda Stadium was ecstatic at the performance of the Tomahawks during their homecoming game against the Stanwood Spartans on Friday, Oct. 5, which ended in a 69-6 victory for Marysville-Pilchuck.

The game started out strong for Marysville, when Austin Joyner ran 80 yards for a touchdown in the first few minutes of the game. It wasn't the only touchdown for Joyner, who ran another 16 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and 81 yards for another touchdown in the second quarter.

"Friday was a really good night for us," said head coach Brandon Carson. "Offensively, we had 503 yards of offense at half time. Both Austin Joyner and Kacey Walker had over 100 yards rushing."

Joyner and Walker were two of eight Tommies who scored touchdowns during the game, which was 56-0 at halftime. Walker scored on an 85-yard run during the first quarter.

Quarterback Jake Luton scored a touchdown in the first quarter and threw a 76-yard pass to Connor Martinis for another touchdown before halftime.

"Jake Luton was 3 of 3 passing for 103 yards and one touchdown. He also ran in for another score," said Carson. "Defensively we were able to force five turnovers with the highlight of Alex Gray returning an interception for a score."

Alex Gray's 40-yard interception return was won of the most exciting moments of the night, with the crowd cheering them on for the touchdown.

Running back Joey Navarro scored on a 6-yard run, Alex Guss ran 11 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Killian Page finished the game with a 48-yard touchdown run. Ryan Spiva completed eight good kicks and David McCall completed one.

The game was M-P's homecoming game, so during halftime the elected homecoming court was escorted in front of the grandstands on the Rotary Club of Marysville's miniature train, while fireworks were set off in the background.

The homecoming court includes freshman prince Nathan Heckendorf, freshman princess Sierra Pablo, sophomore prince David Gloyd, sophomore princess Amandalyn Cowan, junior prince Dante Fields, junior princesses Emyly Hall and Amanda Klep, senior prince Kyle Nobach, senior princess Shelby Delappe and King Juctice Napeahi and Queen Haley Fritz.
