Praise and raze (April 8)

Praise to Gov. Jay Inslee for coming to Marysville and talking about the need for more mental health help in schools. It is a problem that’s been neglected for far too long.

Raze to drivers on State who think the left lane is a passing lane – that’s only on the freeway.

Raze to social media sites that don’t let people tell different points of view. You can’t have an intelligent conversation with only one side of an issue.

Praise to Marysville police for putting on the Citizens Academy. Please do it again.

Speaking of police, praise to the new K9 unit, which caught its first criminal.

Praise to putting cameras on some Marysville school buses – anything to make our kids and roads safer.

Praise to everyone who rode in the Oso Ride to Remember. It was a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives, and those who are fighting on.

Praise to the Marysville School District for helping immigrants learn about their rights. Praise to health providers who help us with our hearing, teeth, weight, eyes and more, along with people who take care of themselves to stay healthy by doing things such as volunteering and bicycling.

Praise to Arlington for building fields of dreams so kids can play baseball even when it’s wet, like it has been so much this spring.

Praise to Marysville school resource officer Chris Sutherland for sharing his story about his son’s involvement with drugs. We can only hope that helps someone not get involved with drugs at all.

Praise to local students for not getting as much involved with drugs and other substances as often as they used to, according to a Snohomish Health District survey. Maybe some are learning from these tragic stories others are sharing.

Praise to the city of Marysville for putting on the “Forever Young Prom.” We hope more of those unique opportunities are made available to residents.

Praise to Arlington students for building tiny houses for homeless in Seattle.

Praise to Arlington Air Force Junior ROTC for placing third in state in only its second year.

Praise to those who helped little cancer patient Layla Beckstrand by participating in the 8th Annual Cupcake Fun Run.

Raze to those jumping on the bandwagon either way on the shooting in Arlington involving the police. People are in too big of a hurry to place blame. Let’s wait for the official investigation to conclude before pointing fingers and demanding action.

Praise to Arlington swimmer Morgan Ginnis for receiving All-America honors. Pretty good since she didn’t get to be on a high school team.

Praise to those who want to work together to make the Marysville Strawberry Festival a success. The “my way or the highway” talk on both sides needs to stop. That is so passe.
