Praise and raze

Oct. 6

Praise to the neighbor who helped his fellow man by calling 9-1-1 when he saw three burglars enter his house.

Praise to Marysville police for their Coffee with a Cop program.

Praise to the Marysville-Tulalip Chamber of Commerce for its free Business Summit. Raze to the Department of Corrections officer who exposed himself to a Marysville teen. Praise to local famers for all they do, including raising pigs and alpacas and growing hazelnuts.

Praise to Marysville-Pilchuck soccer player Trina Davis for participating on the Fiji women’s international team. What an honor, not only for her but for our community.

Praise to M-P for its work on suicide prevention.

Praise to the Marysville School District for moves being made to get rid of the “black cloud” that has hung over this community since the shooting at M-P almost four years ago.

Raze to Jeff Sax for bringing up past accusations against John Lovick that had been dismissed years ago. We believe in due process and are sickened by the mentality of guilt by accusation. That’s dirty politics. Raze that $70,000 is missing from the Marysville Little League. Justice needs to prevail soon in that case so the league can get its money back.

Praise to law enforcement for making a bust that involved drugs, guns and almost $1 million.

Praise to the new Salvation Army leaders for already connecting with other local groups to help others.

Praise to Eagle Wings disAbility Ministries for helping the Marysville Tulalip Integrated Learning Center get going. That training will help these young people become more self-sufficient. Praise to the embedded social worker programs locally that are making great strides to help the homeless.

Praise to Jersey Mike’s Subs for donating $3,000 to the Marysville YMCA.

Praise to the Marysville Army Reserve units for not only getting more involved in the local community, but also for being more able to go help defend our country at a moment’s notice.

Praise to the Tulalip Tribes for challenging a big housing development over environmental concerns. Sometimes those things get pushed aside when the main goal is growth.

Praise also to the tribes for providing a fire truck for Fire District 15.

Praise to the Marysville School District for using funds to lower class sizes and focus on improving behavior. Better-educated kids will be the result.

Praise to the Marysville-Tulalip and the Stilly Valley chambers for hosting candidates forums. Those have been our only opportunities to see the candidates in person.

Praise to Lakewood High School for taking steps needed to improve graduation rates from 78 percent to 90 percent in two years.

Praise to Arlington Public Schools for improving security district wide.

Praise to former Arlington Police Chief Steve Robinson for his service to the community.

Praise to Norse by Northwest for bringing back the Viking Festival in Arlington.

Praise to Marysville Police Department K-9 Ranger for his service to the community.

Praise to Coca-Cola for planning to bring a distribution center to Arlington, bringing even more jobs to our community.
