Sharon Yvonne (Hesse) Krogen

July 27, 1931 — January 2, 2018

(By the way, this photo happened completely by accident; she had to scurry to Everett to bring Dale money for his senior picture session, and the photographer took this picture that day. It was not planned)

Born July 27, 1931, in Niagara Falls, Canada, and died peacefully January 2, 2018 in Arlington, WA from Parkinson’s disease and congestive heart failure. Sharon grew up in Niagara Falls until 1945, when she moved to Bremerton, WA to join her parents who had already moved there.

She finished her senior year of high school there, graduating in 1947. She then moved (with her parents) to Cottage Grove, Oregon, where they owned a gas station. It was there she met and married Paul Krogen. Their first son, Ted, was born there in 1955. Paul had always wanted her to move to Arlington, to the family property off Kackman Road. Eventually, he talked her into it. They bought property from Paul’s aunt and built a house and moved in 1963, where she became – and remained – quite active in all things “Arlington” (where she had objected to moving because she said her kids would have no other kids to play with).

She stayed active in clubs, committees, working at the school district for 20-plus years.

Growing up mainly German, she immersed herself in the Norwegian culture of Paul’s family. She remained true to her adopted Norwegian nationality until the end, coaching the lefse and krumkake party on Christmas Eve just this year. Passions included her family and friends, painting, volunteering, dogs, traveling, Son’s of Norway – lefse rolling, baking cookies and her very special friend, Larry Solem. Sharon had four children, Ted, Debbie, Dale (deceased 1981) and Mike; two sisters, Loralie (deceased) and Shirley Thompson of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, {adopted, step- and bio}- numerous nieces and nephews.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life to honor a life well-lived on April 7, 2018, from noon – 3 p.m. at Pioneer Hall. We’ll have lunch and please bring your fun “Sharon” stories to share.
