Students sought for new trades program in Marysville schools

MARYSVILLE – Young people possibly interested in a career in the trades industry with high pay and high demand are encouraged to check out the new Regional Apprenticeship Pathways Center through the Marysville School District.

Business, industry, education, community and government worked together to set up the program at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

The program will start with students completing pre-apprenticeship training. Students may then choose to move into college courses to graduate and then transition directly into a full apprenticeship course of study. Upon completion of the program and all other graduation requirements, students would graduate high school with their diploma, a college credential and a pre-apprenticeship certificate recognized by local labor unions.

The center will be open to all North Snohomish County schools (high school juniors and seniors this school year, and also Everett Community College students next year). The building location is situated for minimal impact to the day-to-day functions of the school and had previously been used as the school’s woodshop. Local assets such as the Cascade Industrial Center and many aerospace companies lay the groundwork for expansion of the program to keep Snohomish County competitive in the construction, aerospace and manufacturing industries, a school district news release says.

Enrollment is done through an application process. For details contact Career and Technical Education program director Ryan Beatty at 360-965-0027 (ryan_beatty@msd25.org), or Anne Carnell, RAP Center program assistant director at 360-965-0035 (anne_carnell@msd25.org)
