While this winter’s evening parade ceremony at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School gymnasium was the continuation of an annual tradition for the Marysville Naval Junior ROTC, it also represented a first for the 16-year-old organization, since it was the first time that students from two separate high schools in Marysville came together for this ceremony as part of the same NJROTC company.

MARYSVILLE — Marysville and Everett residents expressed their frustrations with ongoing odors in the area at a Jan. 5 meeting in the Marysville City Council Chambers that was intended to facilitate fact-finding for citizens, elected officials and regulatory agencies alike.

MARYSVILLE — Unpleasant odors in the area continue to be a concern for Marysville and Everett residents, and the Citizens for a Smell Free Marysville are once again meeting with elected officials and regulatory agencies to see what can be done to put a stop to this issue.
At 5 p.m. on Jan. 5, the Marysville City Council Chambers will serve as the site for a public meeting between state Rep. Hans Dunshee and members of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, the Snohomish County Health District and the Citizens for a Smell Free Marysville, as well as any other interested citizens, to discuss what steps can be taken to eliminate the odors reported by Marysville and Everett residents alike.
Larry Groom isn’t sure how much time he has left, but the school resource officer for the Tulalip Police Department wants to keep doing what he’s doing until his time is up.
“I want to be the first cop in a walker,” laughed Groom, who was diagnosed a little more than a year ago with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.” “I hope to work until I can’t.”
Marysville Police responded to the 1900 block of First Street at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 30 to investigate a report of a man who was assaulted with a firearm. The victim, a 22-year-old Marysville man, reported he had been “pistol whipped” by an unknown subject in his residence at that location.
In the last three days, Marysville Fire District crews have responded to three residential fires.
Due to stagnant weather conditions and elevated air pollution levels, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has issued a Stage 1 burn ban for Snohomish County until further notice.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issues temporary bans on indoor and outdoor burning when the weather trends toward stagnant conditions, such as air inversions, which trap fine particle pollution emitted from chimneys, cars, trucks and other activities.
