No alarms or escape plan but Marysville family OK after mobile home fire

MARYSVILLE – The family dog died, but four family members escaped a mobile home fire Thursday.

The Marysville Fire Department said the home did not have any working smoke alarms or a fire escape plan.

Two adults and two children escaped from the home in the 5500 block of 6th Ave. NE just before 4 a.m., after one of the adults woke up and saw smoke.

The family exited through a window and went to a neighbor’s home to call 9-1-1. Marysville firefighters arrived minutes later to find the home fully engulfed with flames. More than a dozen firefighters from Marysville, Everett, Tulalip Bay and Getchell Fire spent close to an hour extinguishing the fire. Damage is expected to be around $100,000. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

“It is critical to have smoke alarms on every level and in every bedroom of your home,” a news release says. “Most home fire deaths happen in homes without smoke alarms or without working smoke alarms. We also urge families to practice a home fire escape plan. Ensure windows used as escape routes are not blocked by furniture or other items.”

The fire is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.
