New Marysville firefighters hired, others receive awards

MARYSVILLE – The Marysville Fire District swore in seven new full-timers Wednesday and also gave out some awards.

Firefighter/paramedic Joseph Kendrick joins after more than 10 years of experience. Firefighter/paramedic Hunter Day previously served as a firefighter in Arlington and elsewhere. Sean Anderson, Thomas Fitchett, Scott Cloudy, Katie Hereth and Michael Work are firefighters.

Hereth grew up in Marysville and graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School. She previously served at Fire District 19 in Silvana and has been a part-timer in Marysville since January.

Work grew up in Arlington and graduated from Lakewood High School. He has been an EMT for 13 years, including four as a part-time firefighter with Marysville.

Anderson and Cloudy have been part-timers here, and Fitchett is a former part-timer here.

Meanwhile, nine members of the Marysville Fire District were honored Wednesday for their actions to help save a woman’s life following a car crash.

Receiving the Chief’s Excellence Award were: Mirco Piazzi, medical services officer; Ian Barrett, firefighter/paramedic; Keith Taylor, battalion chief; Capts. Matthew Campbell and Jeff Tucker; and firefighters Ryan Hopp, Shayne Pierce, Brenden Hancock and Sidney Monroe.

They responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-5 the February 10. They worked to quickly rescue an unconscious and seriously injured woman from one of the vehicles, stabilize her and transport her within minutes to Providence Regional Center in Everett. The patient recovered and thanked the firefighters in person.

Chief Martin McFalls said, “Our firefighters train constantly to be able to perform life-saving measures in moments like this.”
