MARYSVILLE – It took a while, but the city has purchased the last house on First Street, paving the way for the First Street Bypass.

The tenants have until April 1 to move out. All of the other homes have been demolished on that block.

The city is still negotiating buying parts of property east of there, but no other homeowners will need to be relocated, city Chief Administrative Officer Gloria Hirashima said Monday.

The bypass is being built to make way for the Highway 529 interchange off of Interstate 5. When that is completed in a few years, motorists will be able to enter and leave down without having to deal with the railroad tracks, which has caused traffic woes in town for decades.

The City Council approved the final land buy at 1304 First St. Monday in a special meeting.
