Fire causes $1 million damage to Village Restaurant

MARYSVILLE – Investigators were still trying to figure out late Thursday the cause of a two-alarm fire that caused about $1 million in damage to the landmark local hangout The Village Restaurant.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office was still investigating the cause.

No one was injured in the blaze Feb. 19 as the last people there left around 2:45 a.m., said Christie Veley, the Marysville Fire Department’s new public information officer.

“It’s a sad day,” she told two locals who said they frequented the restaurant. The business has gone through a major remodel the past few months.

It took six local fire departments and about 30 firefighters up to three hours to put out the blaze, she added. Some smoke and hot spots were still evident at noon Sunday.

Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to a hotel next door. It did not have to be evacuated, Veley said.

Departments that helped included Arlington, Tulalip, Silvana, Getchell and Everett.
