M’ville fire: $500K Value Village blaze was arson

MARYSVILLE – After reviewing on-scene surveillance video, officials have determined that thefire Sunday that caused about $500,000 in damage to the Value Village in Marysville was an arson.

Marysville police are investigating.

Some smoke damage also occurred in the Big Box Store next to Value Village.

Value Village opened Monday morning as employees worked around the clock to get it restored. Big Box is having a sale.

It took roughly three hours to get the fire under control. Damage was mostly limited to a semi-truck full of clothes behind the store. The was little fire, smoke or water damage to the store.

Firefighters found a blaze burning inside a semi-truck attached to the store. Smoke and some flames spread inside the store.

Firefighters gained access by opening a section of the building’s roof and by launching an offensive attack inside the building. Getchell firefighters provided mutual aid.

The Value Village building did contain a sprinkler system, which helped control the fire. Firefighters responded to 1334 State Avenue shortly after midnight.
