Lakewood School Board to delay boundary decision

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood School Board will be seeking more input before deciding on whether the district should re-draw its elementary school boundaries.
Superintendent Dennis Haddock said Wednesday, Feb. 24, that the Board will not take any action regarding the decision at the March 3 meeting.
"The Board wants to gather more information about implementation before it makes its final decision," Haddock said in a phone interview.
Haddock said those aspects that need more discussion include how the district would accommodate staffing and transfers, solve student safety issues and added take into account added facilities costs.
"We want to make sure we're not missing anything," Haddock said.
If approved in its current form, the recommendation would convert Lakewood's three elementary schools — Cougar Creek, Lakewood and English Crossing — into kindergarten through fifth-grade buildings.
The School Board is slated to get a brief update during its March 3 meeting, but Haddock said that it will not take action until at least the March 17 meeting.
