January 21, 2010 · 5:13 PM
MARYSVILLE - Only minor flooding has been reported from a breach in the levee which runs along Ebey Slough south of Marysville.
According to Snohomish County spokesman Christopher Schwarzen the breach was reported at about 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21 by officials of Diking District No. 4 which protects the floodplain below Sunnyside Boulevard. Schwarzen said that the District reported that the breach is currently 18-20 wide. He added that tides are low and water is flowing out and described the flooding as “pretty shallow.” He noted that there are few homes in the area. None appears to be at risk.
Schwarzen said that Snohomish County Public Works and DEM crews are assisting Diking District No. 4 with assessment of damage. The Corps of Engineers also is assisting and will provide “super-sacks” as needed.
