County urges residents to recycle Christmas trees

Snohomish County is urging residents to consider recycling their Christmas trees after the holidays.

Snohomish County residents may be able to sign up for tree pick-up services from local youth organizations, or take their trees to community drop-off sites. Donations are sometimes requested.

Those with curbside yard debris collection service from their garbage collectors should check with their operators for instructions on when, where and how to leave their trees for pick up.

County residents may also be able to take their trees to local compost facilities, although prices and hours will vary. For more information about compost facilities in your area, go to the Washington State Department of Ecology's Web site at

Those who want compost or mulch for their yards may chip their own trees.

The county also invites residents to take their trees to recycling and transfer stations, whose locations are listed at The charge is $5 per tree, effective through March 31.
