MARYSVILLE — The Marysville chapter of Soroptimist International recently presented a series of annual awards and inducted new Board members.

This year's Board for the Marysville Soroptimists includes Board President Rosie Reynaud and Board members Renae James, Laura Fletcher, Elaine Hanson, Alice Demmig, Suzanne Perry, Victoria Mattson, Carmen Rasmussen, Carol Biegler and Debbie Elgin.

Sadiqa Sakin received this year's "Make a Difference for Women" award from the Marysville Soroptimists. According to James, this award is intended to honor one woman each year who works to improve the lives of women and girls through her professional or volunteer work. Sakin is the founder of the World of Hearts organization.

Jasleen Kaler received this year's Violet Richardson award from the Marysville Soroptimists. According to James, this award is given to one young woman each year, between the ages of 14-17, who is actively engaged in volunteer work within her community or school. Kaler has been volunteering at Providence Medical Center for the past few years, and is a recent graduate of Grace Academy. Kaler's award includes money for herself and for the Children's Association at Providence Medical Center.

Lisa Rasmussen, Susan Payne and Venita Benitez received this year's "Women's Opportunity" award from the Marysville Soroptimists. According to James, these cash awards are presented to women who have primary financial responsibility for their families, and are seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training or education.
