MARYSVILLE — On June 18, the members of American Legion Post 178 in Marysville conducted their officer installation for 2009. The installing officer was Jake Cabuag, Area 1 first vice commander for Department of Washington.
Installed this year were Bill Graff as sergeant at arms, Gary Clark as service officer, Tony Campbell as second vice commander, Lynn Claughton as first vice commander, Autrey Steilling as adjutant and Ken Cage as commander. Jim Sewell, immediate past commander, was installed as chaplain, and Ray Patterson, immediate past adjutant, was installed as finance officer.
The American Legion was authorized by Congress in 1919, with the purposes of advocating for veterans and promoting Americanism. In Washington, the Legion sponsors Boys State and Girls State, which stress the American political process and promote good citizenship.
