Biringer’s strawberries are ready for picking

ARLINGTON — Crews started picking strawberries at Biringer’s new strawberry fields in Arlington Friday, June 12, and the public started rolling in on Saturday, said Dianna Biringer.

They hired a short crew of six to start picking June 12 with 10 on duty Saturday. The public started rolling in to pick their own strawberries on Saturday and Sunday, bringing a steady stream of people from around Arlington and beyond.

“We’ve had a lot of people from Bellevue,” said Biringer in the afternoon of Sunday, June 14.

“People were smiling yesterday,” Biringer said.

Her crews did not work on Sunday, however.

They have also hired some Arlington High School recent graduates, including Andrew Algard, who is being trained to drive the tractor to and from the fields. Biringer said she was impressed with Algard’s resume, which included being active in high school plays as well as performing with the AHS jazz choir Jazzmine.

“I guess we’ll have to have some music in the fields,” Biringer laughed.

She is planning her own mini Strawberry Festival June 27 and 28, when there will be face painters, the Colorific Kids, and a kids art show coordinated by Vicki Carver.

“All the kids are painting strawberries and roosters, for the Red Rooster Tour,” Biringer said. The tour is comprised of six area farms that are open to the public, but the roosters aren’t done yet.

“The signs should be ready sometime soon.”

Biringer said that Garden Treasures is also planning some fun at their farm down the road toward I-5 for the weekend of June 27 and 28. Garden Treasures is also opening its third annual farmers market in downtown Arlington this week.

“We feel so very welcomed here in Arlington,” Biringer said.
