MARYSVILLE — Marysville Police are investigating after Marysville Fire District crews found a baby boy dead in a local home at approximately 1 p.m. May 14.

According to Kristen Thorstenson of the Marysville Fire District, medics arrived at an apartment complex, in the 7400 block of 47th Avenue NE, in response to a report of a 15-month-old child unconscious and not breathing. Upon arrival, they determined the baby had already died.

Marysville Police Cmdr. Robert Lamoureux noted that the baby's mother and her boyfriend have not been taken into custody and are cooperating with investigators.

Lamoureux explained that the child had fallen down the stairs at approximately 9 p.m., May 13, while the mother's boyfriend was babysitting him. Detectives were told the baby cried, but did not appear to need medical attention.

Lamoureux was told by the baby's mother that she had checked on him at approximately 3 a.m. May 14, while he was sleeping, and that he appeared to be fine. However, when the child was checked on again at 12:45 p.m. that same day, he was not breathing and was feared dead.

Lamoureux noted that the baby had no known previous medical conditions.

As of press time, the child's cause of death has yet to be determined. An autopsy is set for May 15, and detectives said its results will steer the investigation to follow.
