MARYSVILLE — At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 14, Marysville Fire District emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a residential structure fire located at 9931 49th Dr. NE.
The downstairs occupant reported seeing fire on the porch and alerted the upstairs occupant.
The fire could be seen en route from blocks away by first responders, and they arrived to a fully engulfed two story duplex.
According to Kristen Thorstenson, public information and education officer for Marysville Fire District 12, this was mostly a defensive fire which was soon brought under control, but the structure was a total loss.
The fire is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office and is considered suspicious at this time.
Both residents were displaced and are staying with friends or relatives. Two cats remain missing, but no injuries were reported.
Crews from Marysville Fire District included a ladder truck, three engines, two medic units, an aid unit, a battalion chief and mutual aid provided by a Getchell Fire engine, and a battalion chief from Lake Stevens Fire, for a total manpower of 24.
