Salon Savvy Etc. offers cosmetics, massage, skin and hair care
SMOKEY POINT Penny Rudy just wants to help women feel good about themselves.
Were passionate about working within our community, said Rudy, of the Chrysalis Clinic at Salon Savvy Etc.
Salon Savvy Etc. offers hair and skin care, massage and cosmetics with a seven-member staff.
Rudy, a certified permanent cosmetics technician, worked with Lisa Hawthorne, a licensed esthetician, and hair designer Colleen Klein for a year and a half, before they moved their business to its current location at 3710 168th St. NE in Smokey Point.
Along the way, they hired licensed massage practitioner Malynda Daniels, whose mother was a client of Rudys, and makeup consultants Joyce Togstad and Carla Jira, who have known Hawthorne much longer.
Im Lisa and Carlas mom, said Togstad, who sells and uses Jan Iredale mineral cosmetics. I knew she, Penny and Colleen were planning on coming here, and it seemed like a good opportunity. As women, we all like to look better, from the inside out.
Hawthorne recommended Jan Marini skin research and skin care product regimens to her customers, many of whom are dealing with hormonal or prematurely aged skin. She also performs facials, waxing and resurfacing peels, as well as tints for eyelashes and eyebrows, while Klein handles hair colors, cuts and extensions.
Daniels 11 years of experience in massage therapy focuses more on her customers insides, and includes hot stone and coffee aromatherapy massages.
Hot stone massage is exactly what it sounds like, Daniels said. I use hot stones to massage the muscles more deeply, since the heat from the stones stretches the muscles farther, making it a more mellow, relaxing experience. The coffee massage is more of a stimulating wake-up. I like relieving peoples pain without drugs.
Rudy has worked in permanent cosmetics for eight years and recognizes that it is an invasive procedure. That is why she exercises caution.
Sanitation is a huge thing and Im very strict about it, Rudy said. My needles are sterile and disposable. Ive trained all over, from California and New Orleans to here and Seattle. Its an ongoing job to stay on top of the latest developments in the field. We have women who wonder if it will hurt, but I use topical anesthetic.
Togstad touted permanent cosmetics as an alternative for middle-aged and elderly women.
Once you get to be my age, it can be harder to do, especially if you need glasses or you have shaky hands, Togstad said. Its nice to be able to get up and have your face on.
