NIE class projects move from special section to special placement
MARYSVILLE The Marysville Globes Newspapers In Education (NIE) program this year will have a revised setting to highlight the work of students from local classrooms that designed advertisements for local businesses. Instead of appearing in a separate section for one week, individual ads will be spotlighted in a prominent page three location consecutively each week.
Several local elementary classrooms participated in the project and The Globe decided their work merited a spotlight treatment, said Publisher Kris Passey.
Each week a different local business will have the first-place ad designed by the class produced full size together with the second and third choices. The names of all students in the class who participated and the school and class teachers name will be included.
The local business will also have space to comment on the project and the ads designed by the students.
The purpose of the Newspapers In Education projects are to involve classrooms and young students in understanding how to use the local newspaper and how the newspaper works. The Globes Reader Advisory Board has also suggested that more young citizens of our community be involved in their local newspaper and gain an understanding of its role in local citizenship and economics.
The featured ads should begin running in April, Passey said.
