Marysville resident earns governors academic honors

MARYSVILLE Everett Community College student Melissa Wax of Marysville will be honored March 20 by Gov. Christine Gregoire for being named to the Washington All-Academic Team.
Wax is one of two Everett students named to the team comprised of 62 members chosen from the states 34 community and technical colleges.
Including Wax, each team member receives a $750 scholarship funded by the Northwest Education Loan Association and KeyBank and are eligible for additional scholarships at Washington colleges and universities.
Age 28, Wax plans to transfer to the University of Washington. Shes majoring in photography, with a focus on other fine arts disciplines, including oil painting and drawing.
Wax also is studying German. She hopes eventually to attend the Academy of Visual Arts in Germany. She is president of the Art Alliance, a volunteer for Purrfect Pals and a member of the honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. She and her husband are expecting their first child in August.
