New fire station

The bulldozers and earthmovers already have started to make way for the new Sunnyside fire station at the corner of 40th Street NE and 71st Avenue NE, but the city, the fire district and county fire officials joined forces for a groundbreaking March 3. Braving the rainy weather, from left, City Councilman John Soriano, Councilwoman Carmen Rasmussen, Fire Commissioner Paul Rochon, City Councilwoman Donna Wright, county fire official Dave DeMarco (rear), fire district board member Kathy Smith and Mayor Dennis Kendall. Officials expect the $3.3 million, 11,000-square-foot facility to be finished by October and open for business by November.
