Highway 9 roundabout functional as school begins
MARYSVILLE – The new roundabout on Highway 9 near Marysville Getchell High School is not done, so traffic tie-ups are likely as school begins Sept. 4.
Detours that added up to 10 miles are no longer needed, but the roundabout itself is not finished.
The repaving project near Marysville-Pilchuck High School is done, so no extended delays are expected there.
The state Department of Transportation had hoped the roundabout at Highway 9 and 84th would be done by the start of school.
WSDOT installs roundabouts to improve the safety of a particular corridor. This intersection was the site of 43 collisions between 2007 and 2012. Roundabouts have been shown to reduce collisions by 75 percent, a state news release says.
