October 23, 2012 · 1:07 PM

EVERETT — Naval Station Everett will be conducting security drills in the harbor around the base on Wednesday, Oct. 24, and Thursday, Oct. 25, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days. The exercise will include security boat maneuvers and the use of automatic weapon blank rounds to increase training realism. There will also be pyrotechnic visual and sound effects. Exercise participants will not be issued live ammunition.

Base fire and medical personnel will also practice responding to simulated mass injuries. Providence Regional Medical Center Colby Campus will participate in the exercise by receiving patients in theatrical moulage.

The purpose of the exercise is to maintain and improve qualifications of personnel who are charged with protecting the base, naval vessels and maritime environment. There will be a 500-yard safety zone in effect, and a broadcast notice to mariners in the area will be transmitted before and during the exercise.
