Snohomish County issues more than 1,000 replacement ballots

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — An error in the ballot assembly process has led the Snohomish County Auditor's Office to send out more than 1,000 replacement ballots for the Aug. 17 election.
According to Snohomish County Auditor Carolyn Weikel, 1,007 ballots countywide included races and issues that voters in those specific precincts were not eligible to vote on.
The error occurred in the county's contracted mail house when the ballots were put together, Weikel said.
Elections officials said a small number of voters from Marysville and Arlington could have received the affected ballots.
Voters who received a replacement ballot are asked to destroy their old ballot.
Voters who have already sent off their ballot are encouraged to vote again.
If voters do not return their replacement ballots, Weikel said that elections staff will only count votes on the original ballot that were appropriate for voters' precincts.
The new ballots will include pre-paid postage. Ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 17.
