Each year, the mission of the South Snohomish County Division of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program is to deliver symbols of hope to the children and teens of working class, underserved and military families, from Smokey Point south to the King County line. In order to accomplish this, though, Toys for Tots must first secure a warehouse that will allow its members to collect, sort, count and distribute the thousands of donations they receive from a community whose generosity they’ve lauded.

We’re done! The second special session of your citizen Legislature ended on June 29. All totaled, it took state lawmakers 153 days to complete their work. While no one is proud of the extra time it took to pass the operating and capital budgets, and some meaningful reforms, we can say it resulted in thoughtful, bipartisan public policy that is good for our state.

EVERETT — The USNS Montford Point (MLP 1) arrives at Naval Station Everett on the morning of Friday, July 19. The new ship, which departed from San Diego on July 12, is the Navy's first Mobile Landing Platform, and is owned by Military Sealift Command.

Snohomish County Elections mailed ballots July 18 to more than 332,000 voters for the Aug. 6 Primary. The Aug. 6 Primary is not countywide. Voters in Edmonds, Everett and Tulalip as well as some of the surrounding areas have no races to vote on in the Primary and will not receive a ballot. The local voters' pamphlets were mailed July 18, one per household to areas featuring a Primary race or issue.

MARYSVILLE — Former Marysville Police Officer Derek Carlile was fired by the city of Marysville in May of this year, after his daughter died in March of last year from being shot by a handgun that he’d left unattended, but the Marysville Police Officers Association has filed a grievance on Carlile’s behalf and an arbitration hearing is tentatively set for this fall.
