About 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, a homeowner in the 21200 block of Menzel Lake Road near Granite Falls called 911 to report a burglary in which basic needs items, including blankets, shoes and food were taken from the home. Deputies searched a wooded area behind the house and found some of the stolen items. During their search someone, presumably the suspect, fired a shot at deputies. Deputies believe the suspect knew it was police since they had identified themselves in the wooded area.
