Realtors make donation to city
The Snohomish County Camano Association of Realtors presented the city with a $10,000 donation to support an up-coming outdoor film festival to be held at parks and public spots around Marysville. Celebrating the donation at a recent City Council meeting were, from left, council members Jeffrey Vaughan, Donna Wright, Jeff Seibert, Mayor Dennis Kendall,  Realtors association President Rich Williamson, Council members Jon Nehring, John Soriano, Lee Phillips and Carmen Rasmussen. City Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew has said film titles are not yet known, but the first movie night is set for June 7 in Jennings Memorial Park. M-P girls win home tri-meet
Junior Alex McDonald won the girls 100 hurdles by a healthy 1.3-second margin. - Aug 28 2008, 4:17 PM The M-P girls won 10 of 18 events to edge Stanwood and the boys seven more for second place behind Arlington when Tomahawk track hosted the nearby rivals April 17.

The Tomahawk girls won all three relays while the boys won one of just two to bolster their standings. In one of the meet's largest margins of victory, the girls 4x400 relay of Cali Cull, Alisha Oden, Haley Nemra and Nicolette Runyan finished a full 10 seconds faster than the Stanwood A squad.

In addition to winning the long jump, junior Andy Abadam ran a leg of both boys relays, including the winning 4x400. He was joined in the relay victory by Ryan Lanphere, Shawn McPherson and Dylan Knudson. Lanphere was M-P's lone dual champion, defeating Arlington's Luke Passalacqua to win the half mile in 2:01.62 and fellow Eagle Paul Simbeck in the 3,200.

The Tomahawks remain just ahead of Cascade, whom they face next in an April 25 game with conference championship implications.

Monroe didn't give up the game easily. The playoff-caliber team has put together seven wins of its own this season, including one over Cascade and a draw with Snohomish.

Lakewood track wins at Cedarcrest
Lakewood thrower Rachael Hartman unleashes a cannon in the shot put, an event she would go on to win when Cedarcrest hosted Lakewood April 17. - Aug 28 2008, 4:17 PM Dominance in the field and distance events gave the Lakewood boys and girls track teams victory when Cedarcrest hosted the Cougars and Archbishop Murphy for a league tri-meet April 17.

The Lakewood boys went 1-2 in all three distance events while senior thrower Tawnya Hulslander won two events and took second in a third.

AHS students revive 'Our Town'
Arlington High School drama students tour the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum with Harry and Ruth Yost recently. They were escorted through the museum by pioneers Ruth and Harry Yost, who showed them furniture, tools and various equipment the students had never seen before.

M-PHS students win national awards
“Faucet” by Jarin Troxel, an M-PHS senior, won a silver award in the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Program for his drawing. - Aug 28 2008, 4:29 PM Two Marysville-Pilchuck High School students won prizes at the national level of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program, a program that identifies and develops creative teenagers.

Vanessa Thompson releases 'Vanessa'
Vanessa Williams, of Marysville, releases her second full CD, April 24, at the Baltic Room in Seattle. - Aug 28 2008, 4:29 PM Vanessa Thompson and her dad, Jim Thompson, are busy planning her CD release party which will be in the Baltic Room in Seattle Thursday, April 24. The first half of the event is by invitation only, but it will be opened to the public at 9:30 p.m. Admisssion is $5.

Thompson performed last summer at the Tulalip Amphitheater, opening for the Beach Boys and she has sung the National Anthem at some sports events.
