The American Cancer Society is known for their community events bringing awareness and funding to cancer research, and in Snohomish County one of those events is the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

EVERETT — Naval Station Everett will be conducting security drills in the harbor around the base on Wednesday, Oct. 24, and Thursday, Oct. 25, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days. The exercise will include security boat maneuvers and the use of automatic weapon blank rounds to increase training realism. There will also be pyrotechnic visual and sound effects. Exercise participants will not be issued live ammunition.

ARLINGTON — As Washington state enters its third year in the Washington Cycling League, area high schoolers are gearing up for mountain bike race season. Fourteen students from Arlington, Lakewood and Burlington participated on the Lakewood and Arlington Composite Mountain Bike Teams last year, with Lakewood riders placing eighth and Arlington Composite placing 10th out of 21 teams overall.
