MARYSVILLE — On the same day that Marysville and Arlington churches are teaming up to provide free school supplies to area children, the Messiah Lutheran Church is hosting their sixth annual back-to-school clothing giveaway.

On Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., local families will be able to shop for free clothes at the church, located at 9209 State Ave. in Marysville. Event coordinator Heather Beltran explained that new and gently used clothing will be available for school-aged children. The giveaway will also include an infant clothing room.

"Last year, we served about 140 families, which adds up to a lot more kids, since some of those families had as many as six, eight or 10 kids," Beltran said. "We usually serve between 100-200 families each year."

Due to the number of families expected to attend and the relatively small size of the church, Beltran noted that families will be limited to 20 minutes of shopping time each, although she added that they could get back in line to shop again after their first 20 minutes are done.

"With as contained as our shopping space is, that should give them ample time to look," Beltran said. "We'll also have volunteers on hand to help people search for the right sizes of clothes for boys or girls."

New socks and undergarments will also be available, along with some school supplies. For more information, call 360-659-4112.
