MARYSVILLE – The “Welcome Back” assembly at Marysville-Pilchuck High School is always fun.

But it was made extra special today when it was announced that Mike Rainwater received the Washington State Security Officer of the Year Award. Chris Sutherland, who is moving back to patrol after being a school resource officer at M-P the past six years, nominated Rainwater.

“I’ve never seen him lose his temper,” Sutherland said of Rainwater, adding that he always fair and shows respect for students.

Sutherland said Rainwater has the “heart and soul” for the job and really “deserves this award.”

The award caught Rainwater by surprised, and he was obviously humbled.

“I love working with you guys,” he said. “I’m probably one of the few here who really enjoys getting up and coming here every morning.” As usual, the assembly featured competitions between the classes.

The junior class won for singing “Sweet Caroline,” with the seniors a close second with “My Girl.”

The cheerleaders were honored for winning numerous awards at camps this summer.

Principal Christine Bromley mentioned how the school is growing in numbers so there’s no reason it shouldn’t “pack the house” at events, including tonight’s game at Snohomish.

And the freshman class was welcomed with all walking down the red carpet being cheered on by staff and fellow students.
