MARYSVILLE – The mystery of what’s inside the historic safe at the Marysville Museum has spread all the way to Japan.

A Japanese TV show is in Marysville Monday and Tuesday trying to crack the safe.

Marysville Historical Society president Ken Cage said the TV show contacted him. “They found us,” he said, adding the museum asked local locksmiths to try first but they couldn’t do it.

Cage said the TV show saw an attempt three years ago to open the safe that appeared on Channel 5 in Seattle.

The weekly, one-hour show, translated in English to be “Lessons you never learn in school,” has been on the air in Japan for 10 years. It used to be filmed only in Japan, but now they travel all over the world. Their next stop is in Oklahoma.

The translator told historical society members that the locksmith told him this safe will be “a hard one” to crack.

Cage said even if they can open it, he’s not optimistic about what’s inside.

“Probably just some old papers,” he said.
