Golf tourney raises scholarship money in Arlington

ARLINGTON – A golf tournament that provides scholarships for local graduating high school seniors is looking for sponsors and players.

The 5th Annual Todd Evans Scholarship tournament will take place Aug. 17 at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville. It benefits graduates from Arlington, Marysville and Lakewood.

The scholarship is dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues. After his parents died, Evans went into seclusion for 11 years. When he returned, his brother Mike sought help and found out Todd had schizophrenia, bipolar syndrome and post traumatic stress disorder. He went into seclusion again, stopped taking medication, a simple infection spread, and he eventually took his own life.

Mike Evans started up the tournament after that to raise funds to help others avoid a similar fate.

Cost to play is $110, which includes golf, cart, t-shirt and food. Tourney sponsors are $500, hole sponsors $100. Donations of prizes for a raffle also are being sought.
