Eagle Fest contests have landed in Arlington

ARLINGTON – Entries of nature poems and artwork, and eagle photographs are being collected to display at the Arlington-Stillaguamish Eagle Festival Feb. 3.

Cash prizes from the Arlington Arts Council will be awarded.

The Nature Haiku contest is open to all Snohomish County residents. Haiku poets are challenged to convey a vivid message in the traditional non-rhyming three line poem. The first line is five syllables, seven syllables in the second and five in the third, along with no punctuation.

Each entrant can have two on their own entry form. Prizes will be awarded in three age groups (K-5th grade, 6th-12th grade, 19 years and older). First prize in each age group will be $50. Entries must be received by midnight Jan 29. Submit online at www.arlingtonwa.gov/haikucontest or by mail to: City of Arlington, Recreation, 238 N Olympic Ave, Arlington, WA 98223, or place in one of the collection boxes at Arlington Library or Arlington City Hall.

The Eagle Festival will also be featuring eagle photography and a Nature Art Show. They are open to all ages and experience levels of residents in Snohomish County and Camano Island. Along with a $200 cash prize, the winning eagle photograph will be printed on the Eagle Festival poster and displayed on the city’s website. Photographers may enter two eagle shots. Entry fee is $5 each.

Artists are asked to submit art depicting nature for the art show. A People’s Choice winner will receive $200. Ribbons will be presented for first, second and third places in: nature photograph, nature painting, mixed media, and two youth categories. Cost is $5 per piece, up to four entries. The children’s entry fee is a donation to the Arlington Food Bank.
