Manager resigns after firing Marysville woman over pregnancy
MARYSVILLE — A Marysville woman claims she was fired from a Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurant because she is pregnant.
Kameisha Denton of Marysville has a text message from the store manager that reads, “Hello I am sorry to inform you but it’s not going to workout with Jersey Mikes. It’s not a good time for us to have someone who is leaving for maternity leave in several months anyways. You also failed to tell me this during our interview. Good luck to.”
The store owner, Tim Trieb, said he is aware of the text, and said the manager resigned because of the incident.
Trieb called Denton, apologized, and offered her the job back. Denton declined.
Washington law states: “It is an unfair practice for an employer, because of pregnancy or childbirth, to refuse to hire or promote, terminate, or demote, a woman.”

Drag Strip Reunion, Car Show rev up
ARLINGTON –The 15th Annual Arlington Drag Strip Reunion and Car Show at Arlington Airport will take place Sept. 7 at dusk.
Drag racing videos from over the years will be shown.
Art in Park back at Legion
ARLINGTON – Art in Legion Park returns Sept. 8-9.
The two-day Art and Fine Crafts Festival features original work by artists and artisans from Snohomish and surrounding counties. There is also live music, food and free children’s art activities, as well as free parking.
This is the 10th anniversary for the Arlington Arts Council event.
Dinner-dance-auction an Oso Memorial fundraiser
OSO – A fund-raiser to bring in money for the permanent Oso Memorial at the site of the disaster will take place Sept. 21.
The event will feature a barbecue buffet dinner at Rhodes River Ranch, live music by Johnny Green and the Pack String and a live auction.
Cost is $30.
Limited edition Oso Strong shirts will be for sale at the event from 5-9 p.m.

Friendship Walk-Run, Car Wash returns to Arlington
ARLINGTON – The 11th annual Village Community Services Superhero Friendship Walk, 5K run, and Car Wash returns to downtown Arlington Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Participants will wear their favorite Superhero costume, or not, for the walk-run along a portion of the Centennial Trail. The 5K course will begin and end at Legion Park.
The event is open to runners of all levels with proceeds supporting Voices of the Village, an ensemble band affiliated with Village Community Services, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals living with disabilities.
Race-appropriate food and beverage will be available.
