MARYSVILLE – Taylor Knocke and Evan Krautkremer, two seniors at Marysville Getchell High School, are the Students of the Month for April, as picked by the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis clubs.

Taylor is a Running Start student at Everett Community College and has a grade point average of 3.98.

She has earned 60 college credits and the EvCC President’s Distinction.

She plans to go into nursing after attending school at Seattle University. She already has earned her certified nursing assistant certificate.

Taylor is on the executive board of the Associated Student Body Leadership. She has chaired many committees, including Food Drive, Food for Thought, Homecoming elections and Winter Wishes.

For community service she is very involved at the YMCA as a soccer and basketball coach.

She also volunteers with the food bank and at Cedarcrest Middle and Shoultes elementary schools.

One of her favorite volunteer activities is 5th Grade Camp for Kellogg Marsh Elementary.

Taylor said her grandmother has inspired her to be outspoken for liberal causes.

She chaired the MG Against Gun Violence effort, which led to her becoming involved with Students Demand Action.

She said the Sandy Hook shooting happened the same day her mom got married, which got her interested in the topic.

“It’s a passion,” she said, along with other “real life” issues like women’s rights and autism awareness.

Evan, who has a 3.8 gpa, plans to be a Navy engineering lab technician before going to college, majoring in chemistry and getting a job in environmental science.

He’s taken Advanced Placement classes in Statistics, Literature, Calculus, Physics and Environmental Science.

He and his mom volunteer with the Arlington food bank, growing food for the homeless.

Like Taylor, he’s also a camp counselor at Cedar Springs for Kellogg Marsh. And he volunteers at the NOAH animal shelter.

He’s been a captain on the schools cross country team and received the most inspirational and coaches awards for “building people up and being supportive,” he said.

He added he briefly held the school record in the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 36 seconds as a member of the track team.

Evan has real-work experience at the Tulalip mall, working first at Hollister and now as Skechers where, “I shower customers with skillful rhetoric to sell shoes.”
