Two art shows special for the holidays

Mary Burns exhibits the work of many north Snohomish County artists at her Bookworks Bookstore on Third Street in downtown Marysville and she is planning a special event for those artists whose work decorate her walls.

“It’s called Season’s Feastings,” Burns said.

An art reception honoring those artists will run from 5 - 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1510 Third St. in Marysville.

Participating artists include artists from Arlington and Marysville. They are Gretchen Lindquist, Coleen Allen, Monica Yantis, Gene Cyrus, Cathy Clark, Janet Myer, Mary Edwards, Joan Grout, Art Dujardin, Saundra Knapp, Diane Hill, Alana Riveira, Evie Scribner and Fumiko Winder.

Meanwhile, another group of Snohomish County artists including Marysville artist Susie Howell are showing their work in the Holiday Art Show presented by the Arts Council of Snohomish County at the Everett Center for the Arts, opening with an artists reception Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 5 - 8 p.m.

During the holiday show reception, two former residents of Marysville, Bob and Dona Anderson, will receive the 2008 Richard Wendt Award of Excellence from the city of Everett’s Cultural Arts Commission. This award recognizes the Andersons for their commitment to enriching our community through the arts.

Howell’s photographs will be displayed with sculptures by this year’s Artist of the Year, Reg Akright, as well as paintings, prints, glass, ceramics and other media. Participating artists include James Arrabito, Carol Ann Bauer, Carol Belval, Betsy Best-Spadaro, Jeanine Borree, Rene Flynn-Federspiel, Gary Georger, Georgia Gerber, Jack Gunter, Janet Hamilton, Chris Hopkins, Makiko Ichiura, Gale Johansen, Deahanna Jones, Kelly Kellogg, Barry McAlister, Frances Nelson, Linda Nelson, Cheri O’Brien, Olivier Peter-Contesse, Zefrim Rose, Susan Russell, Sam Scott, Ron Smith, Lisa Spreacker, Barbara Wyatt and many more.

With generous sponsorship from Rubatino Refuse Removal Inc., this annual exhibit is a feast for the eyes and the soul, providing something for everyone on your list, according to Gallery Director Carrie Colver.

A special opportunity at the reception, two plein-air oil paintings by a beloved Snohomish County artist, Genevieve Tuck, the 1995 Artist of the Year, who died this year, will be up for sale with the proceeds to benefit the Arts Council’s Visual Arts Education Center project.
