Katie Alix, 94, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2008, at Regency Care Center in Arlington, Wash.
Katie was born Oct. 13, 1913, to Harry E. and Carolyn Hart in Everett, Wash. She grew up in Arlington and graduated in 1931 from Arlington High School.
She went to California to live and met James D. Alix and they married on Dec. 24, 1935. She became a Navy wife and enjoyed it. They lived in Guam for two yeas, she also traveled to Europe for two months and this was a highlight of her life. She fondly recalled writing a journal for each day there. Italy was her favorite country.
She researched her genealogy in great detail and shared her findings with her family.
She and Jim enjoyed travel and golfing. She developed a passion for quilting and made numerous beautiful quilts, which she won many ribbons for at the fairs in both California and Washington. She was a member and past president of Santa Rosa Quilt Guild. She also enjoyed classical music.
They retired to Santa Rosa, Calif., and loved it there, but they revisited Washington in the summer when possible to visit family and friends and attend class reunions.
Katie came back to Arlington in 2005, after Jim passed in December 2004, and lived at Olympic Place Retirement to be close to her family again.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E and Carolyn Hart; her sister Dorothy Lindquist; brothers, Lynn Hart, Laurence Hart and Harry Hart; her husband, James D. Alix.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Berta Hart of Los Altos, Calif.; nephews and nieces; their families and friends.
She will be greatly missed for the special and unique person she was. A family gathering and memorial will be held at a later date.
Family would like to thank Olympic Place staff, Regency Care staff, and Dr. Mark Spencer and staff for their kindness and care of Aunt Katie these last few years and months of her life.
