Sno-Isle Libraries hire communication director

After a nationwide search the Sno-Isle Libraries are pleased to announce that they’ve found their new communications director right in their own backyard of Snohomish County.

Kenneth Harvey started work as Sno-Isle’s communications director last month, with his most recent previous position being the marketing and communications director for Community Transit in Everett.

Harvey’s other relevant career experience includes roles in communications and marketing in public, private and non-profit organizations, including Sound Transit and the Tacoma Public Library.

“I’m so interested in libraries, with my previous library experience,” Harvey said. “I’ve been working hard for more than 30 years to help organizations enhance the ways in which they communicate with their customers.”

As their communications director, Harvey will oversee the Sno-Isle Libraries’ internal and external communications, marketing and graphics, and relationships with community partners such as the Friends of the Library groups, volunteers and the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.

“I want to continue to build awareness of the benefits that the Snow-Isle Libraries offer their customers,” Harvey said. “Ignorance is not bliss. If our library patrons aren’t aware of these services, they can’t take advantage of them.”

Harvey will also lead continuing work on Sno-Isle’s 2008-2013 Strategic Plan.

“I want to continue the really great work that’s already being done here, and take it to the next level,” Harvey said. “We need to be innovative to meet the diverse needs of our communities.”

Harvey hopes not only to raise awareness about the Sno-Isle Libraries, but also build further bridges between the libraries and their local governments and community organizations. He also believes there are “a million and one stories to tell” about those who use Sno-Isle’s services.

“I can hardly describe my excitement about being part of the Sno-Isle Libraries and returning to the world of public libraries,” Harvey remarked. “I’m thrilled to join this organization as it works to provide relevant services to the residents and businesses within our region.”

Harvey earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and TV Management, with a Business Marketing minor, from Eastern Washington University. He’s served as a public speaker, trainer and coach across the country.

The Sno-Isle Marysville Library is located at 6120 Grove St. and is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The Sno-Isle Arlington Library is located at 135 N. Washington Ave. and is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. For more information, log onto www.sno-isle.org.
