Tulalip Dressbarn commemorates 10th anniversary of 'SOS' for working women

TULALIP — The Tulalip Dressbarn is re-teaming with international non-profit organization "Dress For Success" to give disadvantaged women an "SOS" to get them employed.

Dress For Success is conducting its 10th annual "Send One Suit" weekend March 1-4 at Dressbarn stores throughout the country, including their Tulalip store, with the aim of collecting 60,000 pieces of professional attire from their customers — a pace of 15,000 items each day — to donate nationwide to women who are trying to gain a job or re-enter the workforce.

"Since the inception of the Send One Suit campaign 10 years ago, Dressbarn has helped more than 125,000 women across the country gain a renewed sense of self, as well as economic stability," said Lois Maathuis, district sales manager for the Tulalip Dressbarn. "Ask any of those women, and I'm sure they'll say the donations they received were more than just gestures of goodwill. They were lifelines. It is our hope that now, more than ever, our Tulalip friends and neighbors will help us in our quest to turn secondhand suits into second chances."

More than 51,000 professional items of clothing were collected during last year's SOS donation drive. All 825 Dressbarn stores across the country, including the Tulalip Dressbarn located at the Seattle Premium Outlets, will serve as drop-off sites for new and gently-used suits, dress shirts, blazers, pants, dresses and shoes that will be used to help women dress their best for job interviews to transition them into the working world. In return, those Dressbarn stores are providing an additional 15 percent off total purchase savings to every customer who brings in a donation, in appreciation for their generosity.

"Our corporate fabric is tightly woven by our philanthropic efforts," said Vivian Behrens, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Dressbarn. "The Send One Suit weekend is an exemplary piece of that ensemble, brightening the lives of women everywhere."

"With the donation of just one suit, an entire family can be transformed," said Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress For Success Worldwide. "So many of the women who come to Dress For Success are single mothers, and the suit is the first step in their journeys to achieve self-sufficiency."
